4. New Business

Need to conceptualize and organize our 80th commemorative / year end event.

An event in the DFC with food, invited dignitaries, and some entertainment could be all we need.  Once concern is that this will not be very “community oriented”, limiting the amount of listeners/community that are included.

BM suggests we hire Hartford based international reggae artist Don Minott, to perform, either at our commemorative event or as our town / gown event. Don is a friend of WESU and his positive lyrics tell stories of struggle and activism from a working class immigrant perspective. While its hard to find a musical act that can resonate with our entire staff and community, roots reggae has a way of appealing to a wide range of folks across demographic lines. Reggae has also been associated with WESU in a major way over the last 20 years, as it has made its way into the mainstream (like hop hop once did).

BY ALL MEANS – LETS HEAR SOME MORE IDEAS! 🙂

5. Other Updates

  • BM will install new CD player in studio a and the new audio amplifier in studio B later this week.
  • still awaiting for a fix to issues monitoring mic 2 in studio B.
  • Still waiting for new network equipment from ITS
  • Light the Torch / Budget
    • Carina is going to WSA financial trainings this week, and after that will start to work through budget stuff/see what other resources might be necessary
  • If we’re going to do staff photo before next staff meeting, we need to send out an email very soon to let community members know so they can plan their schedules accordingly!
    1. Dillon will send out the email
  • For 80th anniversary, Luke is putting together a ~1 hr program on the oral history of WESU through archival materials Leith provided + interviews
