Our Favorite Songs (26 – 30)

26. Twist & Shout by The Beatles

Year Released: 1963
Released On: Please Please Me
Nominated by Peter from San Anselmo who says: This song, more than any other, makes me want to let loose. John Lennon’s hoarse vocals put the song over the top. It’s as if he’s been twisting and shouting all day.
Nominated by Cath from Buffalo who says: I love so many songs and albums of the Beatles but this reminds me of their early days performing on the Ed Sullivan Show

27. Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

Year Released: 1979
Released On: The Wall
Nominated by DJ McKenzie of The Beatles: A Week in the Life.
Nominated by Chris the (great) Aunt who says: A lot of my favorite songs are my favorite because of memories. I was obsessed with The Wall as was the guy I was seeing.

28. Dark Star by Grateful Dead

Year Released: 1968
Released On: Live / Dead
Nominated by Host Steve of Wes Sports & Beyond… who says: This is the first GD song I ever heard, coming from my roommate’s bedroom. He played it every day, while meditating in a lotus position. “Give us this day our daily Dead!” It was the only song I recognized at the first Dead concert I went to!
Nominated by Kara who prefers the 1968 Shrine Auditorium performance from Two from the Vault and says: It’s my favorite Dead song. If I had to listen to only one Dead song for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I haven’t heard a bad version of it, and every one has a different flavor.

29. When Doves Cry by Prince & The Revolution

Year Released: 1984
Released On: Purple Rain
Nominated by Big Bent of Dub Revolution who says: A masterfully sad pop tune that provides an opportunity for everyone to identify within the amazing storytelling and songwriting.
Nominated by Fluccs Capacitor of Time Moves Slow who says: Tragedy never sounded so good.

30. All I Wanna Do by The Beach Boys

Year Released: 1970
Released On: Sunflower
Nominated by DJ PJ Bush of Label Maker.
Nominated by Felix from Sollentuna (Sweden) who says: This psychedelic and thought-warping song by The Beach Boys could as well have been released today… Incredibly modern sound for its age. This might be Mike Love’s best vocal performances as well.
