Our Favorite Songs (31 – 35)

31. A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke

Year Released: 1964
Released On: Ain’t That Good News
Nominated by DJ Corvus of One Song.
Nominated by Cath from Buffalo who says: Always loved his music!
Nominated by Richard K of River Valley Rhythms who says: One of the great voices of the late 1950s and early 60s, this song, recorded as the Civil Rights Movement was hitting its stride and in the wake of the assassination of President John F Kennedy, this brilliant gospel blues is nearly sunk by the string and horn arrangement but Cooke’s voice rises above. An equally powerful version (with a better instrumental arrangement) is the one Otis Redding recorded for “Otis Blue” – this could easily be my number 1 choice!
