#GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday

The last couple of years have been a real struggle for so many of us. The tremendous loss of life amongst friends and family from Covid and other vulnerabilities compounded by the loss of many of our cultural and historical icons almost seems unfathomable. Political divides and associated high tensions continue to create volatile and even dangerous divisions within our communities while corporate controlled media companies fan the flames of frustration to ensure profits. Our overstretched and inflated economy is taking its toll on all but society’s most affluent and, if that weren’t enough pressure, the existential environmental challenges we are facing are changing life as we know it.

In spite of all these foreboding concerns, WESU remains a sanctuary of last resort on the airwaves. Broadcasting hard-to-find news, information and culturally enriching programming regardless of commercial value is central to the mission of WESU.

We do all this, while empowering student and community volunteers to find and amplify their own voices and explore the medium of radio. WESU remains a popular student activity on campus and our Board of Directors has managed to keep our DJ training programing going despite the challenges the pandemic has presented.

Certainly, there are many worthy organizations seeking your support on this #givingtuesday and I’m sure you are doing your best to maximize the impact of your donations.  WESU still needs to raise $25K before the end of 2021 to pay our bills and keep community radio going for another season. To date, we have barely met 15% of our goal.

Whether you can afford to give today or not, if WESU has been a source of light for you during these dark days, I hope you will consider giving the gift of community radio during our Fall/Winter Pledge Drive, happening now. Your support will fortify and strengthen WESU so the station can continue to be a beacon of hope for all those who depend on us to help them read between the lines and navigate these turbulent times.

Please donate online at http://www.wesufm.org/pledge where you can also check out our new thank you gifts or download a pledge form to print and send in the mail.

Sincerely,

Ben Michael
