137. Wesley’s Theory by Kendrick Lamar

George Clinton and Thundercat provide fantastic features, and establish the atmosphere of this dark, funky track. Props to Kendrick and Thundercat for an incredibly catchy hook too.

138. Jolene by Dolly Parton

Year Released: 1974
Released On: Jolene
Nominated by Rick Re:Action who says: Top song by a top song writer. I love so many iterations of this song and I have them ranked. Jolene (the 45) by Dolly Parton played at 33 1/3 is number 1. Number 2 is the original. Number 3 is Strawberry Switchblade. Those are always the top three. 2 and 1 swap from time to time. And the band that rhymes with, “Fright! Cripes!,” is forever last.

139. Mardy Bum by Arctic Monkeys

Year Released: 2006
Released On: Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Nominated by DJ McKenzie of The Beatles: A Week in the Life. Also nominated by DJ Way of Wes Dissect who says: I love (nearly) all of Arctic Monkey’s discography, but I think they set the bar for clever lyrics too high for themselves with the release of this album. Figuring out the plethora of British slang is just the first step in dissecting this witty song.

140. The Backyard by Miracle Legion

Year Released: 1984
Released On: The Backyard
Nominated by Robbie of Homegrown who says: This tune took Miracle Legion from New Haven darlings to. top 40 CMJ college musical darlings who toured the country and Europe to great claim. Through label problems, band members coming and going-the main duo of Mark and Mr. Ray carried on. Until Ray left and Mark continues solo to this day.
